Equipotential Lines

We discussed potential and how it relates to potential energy.  We also did a lab mapping the equipotential lines for two point charges and two parallel plates.

Great America Alternate Assignment

Read the article entitled Physics for the Adventurous.  Write a 2 page summary of the article.  Please email the assignment to your teacher or bring in a printed copy when you return to school on 5/23 or 5/24.

Great America Preparations

Today was a shorter period because of STAR testing.

We discussed the types of measurements you will need to do at the park.  Each student measured their pace and the height to their eyeball.  We discussed how to measure the length or distance of an object by using your pace.  We also made an astrolabe and learned how to use it to calculate the height of distant objects.

Electrostatics Test

We took the electrostatics test for most of the period.  I also assigned the Great America Review Sheet for homework.  Correct your worksheet in red pen and it is equivalent to a stamp.  If there are no corrections or it appears you have simply copied the answers, I will not give you full credit.

Electric Fields

I gave a quiz on Coulomb's law and reviewed the mapping electric field activity.  The last 30 minutes was spent completing the Electric Field Hockey activity.

More Static Electricity

I checked and went over the homework.  We also reviewed the sticky tape lab and I collected it.  We discussed charging by friction, then completed the Electroscope Lab.  After that we discussed charging by induction.  We also completed and turned in the Electrophorus activity.
